Welcome to Season 2018/19

Welcome to the start of a new season. This year will bring a lot of changes, the main one being a new home while Smyth Field is being re-developed. We will be at Metford Recreation Reserve, Schanck Drive, Metford (just past the primary school).

We will be holding 2 Trial nights (7th Sep & 14th Sep) before the season kicks of on Friday 21st September 2018. The night starts at 6.30pm, but try and get there at about 6.15pm so we can get under way on time.

There will be canteen facilities serving all sorts of delights so no need to rush home to get dinner afterwards.

Mid afternoon mail ….. Friday the 13th (ooohhhhhh …. spooky) edition

With Regionals this weekend at Glendale we are having a non-competition night at Smyth. Just like before Zone we’ll have a relaxed night with hurdles and non-competition events such as 300m on offer. No timings, no placings, just a relaxed vibe where the kids can have a good run and try something different. We’ll also get the high jump mat out and the kids can have a practice.

Please note that the majority of the committee will be Glendale all weekend so they’ll enjoy a night off tonight. If you make it tonight please help where possible, especially getting the hurdles in.

No BBQ and Mike the Coffee Guy is having a night off as well. Peter B will kick back under the marquee with cold drinks available.

For our Regional competitors please note that competition starts at 7.45am both days. Scroll down this page for links to the LANSW webpage for further info. Please note that Peter and Renae will station the MSLAC tent at the 200m start – away from the bullrush that is the grandstand at Glendale.

Cheers and once again best wishes to our 40+ athletes competing at Regionals.

Mid afternoon mail …. Friday the 6th of February

Looking forward to a great night of athletics and hope to see you at Smyth.

Schedule B tonight so the 3000m is on. Weston is away so we’ll have a scratch start for anyone interested – no handicapping tonight, we’ll leave that to Weston! Please remember the 3000m is for U12’s and older.

Mike the Coffee Guy is brewing his coffee and ripping out the Snow Cones and Pete and Jen are doing their magic on the BBQ so eats and drinks are all catered for. Last week it was great to see some our Super Tots enjoying a sausage sanger at the 200m bend while watching the big kids. Thanks for your support of these amenities – it helps the club with our fundraising and we like to have a good service offering for our athletes and our supporters.

Regionals are 8 days away so best of luck to our competitors and their preparation for the meet at Glendale.

Early Mail ….. Wednesday the 4th of February

Hello,

Per our text last night training with Renae is ON today. Track is in good shape and should be a top afternoon weather wise so all welcome and hope to see you there. Smyth Field from 5pm.

Regional’s are on in 10 days so a good opportunity for those competitors to get some track work in. If anyone wants to do some high jump or hurdles training today please drop me a text or email – I can roll out the pads and hurdles accordingly.

Last Friday was a cracking night weather wise so conditions for athletics are ideal. Understand there is plenty happening with the new school year and winter sport rego’s but the weeks are ticking by quickly and next thing we know its presentation night. Let’s have a great finish to the season and have as many athletes competing as possible.

Still collating results from the recent Country Championships but a good club turnout and some terrific results that I’ll highlight in another email and club website. As well we’ve had some recent club records which I’ll highlight shortly.

Thanks to all our helpers and volunteers – the kids wouldn’t be participating without your help.

Cheers and thank you for your support. MSLAC.

Friday 16th ….early mail

Hello,

The club hopes all our members and supporters had an enjoyable and safe festive period. We resume competition this Friday the 16th – same time, same place, same bat channel.

We are short a few committee members so any assistance with placings, pack up etc will be GREATLY appreciated.

James Purdie has kindly offered to take the Tiny Tots for the night and Belinda Baxter is handling the recording in Brett and Belinda’s absence. Thank you to both James and Belinda for their help.

BBQ is on so bring your appetite – Super Chef Peter B is raring to go for 2015!

Look forward to seeing you on Friday and best wishes for 2015.

Cheers, MSLAC
